Since 2016 the PMV research group conducts annual evaluation for the BARMER Pharmaceutical Report, in particular analyses for the respective priority topic.
The current Pharmaceutical Report 2024 focuses on vaccination in children and adolescents and is published in the form of several e-papers
The first e-paper “HPV vaccination - protection against HPV-related cancers” examines the frequency of vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV), a vaccination recommended by the STIKO since 2008 for girls and since 2018 also for boys, which has been proven to protect against HPV-caused cancers. For this purpose, cohorts of children and adolescents are examined from the age of nine. Both girls and boys should receive two vaccinations by the age of 14, with later vaccinations possible. The analyses showed that only around 60% of girls were fully vaccinated by the age of 14, while the proportion of 13-year-old boys was significantly lower at 25%. There are clear regional differences. The decline in vaccination activity since the end of the pandemic is worrying. Activities to improve the vaccination rate, such as reminder systems and increased education, are therefore urgently needed.
