DiViDe - Frequency of Diagnosis and Care of Hearing Impairment in Children and Adolescents in Germany

>KIND Hearing Foundation, International Hearing Foundation

Disease incidenceClaims data

Within the DiViDe-project, the “PMV forschungsgruppe” together with the Chair of Audiopedagogy at the University of Cologne, conducted an analysis of children and adolescents with a hearing impairment. The aim of the project was to provide current estimates for the prevalence and information on the care situation of this target group.

To this end, a descriptive analysis of claims data from the BARMER health insurance company was conducted. Data from 2010 to 2020 were available. The analysis was divided into two different designs. Firstly, a cross-sectional analysis per year was used to examine the prevalences and further aspects of care, such as prescribing specialist groups and the supply of medical aids and therapies for children and adolescents. Secondly, a longitudinal analysis was carried out with the birth cohort of 2010 in order to generate information about the time of the initial provision with hearing aids, therapies and other technical aids. In addition, the occurrence of specific comorbidities among the group was analyzed in the longitudinal section.

The project was financially supported by the “KIND Hörstiftung”( KIND Hearing Foundation) and the “Internationale Hörstiftung” (International Hearing Foundation). The project has been completed and the results will be published.
